Santa Barbara Municipal Airport: Use Santa Barbara MTD Route 11 to downtown/Transit Center: roughly 45–50 minutes and about $2.50. It is slow but dramatically cheaper than a taxi or rideshare for a compact downtown stay. SBA is only about 7 miles west of downtown, but limited schedules and high fares can make flying via Los Angeles competitive.
Los Angeles International Airport: The Santa Barbara Airbus is the sane direct option: allow roughly 2½–3½ hours depending on Los Angeles traffic, with fares typically around $50–60 each way. Do not rent a car solely to make this transfer unless you need one beyond Santa Barbara. The budget alternative is FlyAway to LA Union Station, then Amtrak Pacific Surfliner to Santa Barbara, but it adds a connection and the train can run late.
Hollywood Burbank Airport: For travelers already using BUR, take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from Burbank Airport station to Santa Barbara; services run several times daily. Allow about 3 hours station-to-station and roughly $30–40, plus time to reach the station. It is usually less stressful than driving the 101, though not immune to rail delays.
Santa Barbara Amtrak station: This is the best arrival point if the Pacific Surfliner or Coast Starlight works for your itinerary. The station is at the bottom of State Street, walkable to the Funk Zone, waterfront, Stearns Wharf and much of downtown; most central hotels are a short walk or very short rideshare away. Pacific Surfliner is the practical regional train; Coast Starlight is scenic but more delay-prone.
