Eat
Eat in the Old Town for the fullest Sozopol experience: harbour-facing seafood terraces and lanes make an atmospheric dinner after a swim, though the restaurants nearest the photogenic streets are also the most tourist-facing and often pricier. Central Sozopol is the better place to look for everyday practicality and potentially better value; Harmani’s beachfront is useful after the beach but often convenience-led rather than a reason to dine there. Kavatsi, Budjaka and the resort zones are better treated as beach or stay bases than food destinations.
Black Sea fish and seafood, ideally ordered according to the day’s catch rather than from a generic illustrated menu. · Mussels, a natural fit on this coast and a classic relaxed lunch or terrace dinner choice. · Grilled fish, simply prepared, with Bulgarian salad and bread: the essential seaside meal rather than a complicated ‘fine-dining’ production. · Shopska salad—tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, onion and grated white brined cheese—as the standard Bulgarian opening to a hot-weather meal. · Tarator, the cold yogurt, cucumber and dill soup, for a cooling summer lunch. · Bulgarian rakia with salad and shared starters before the main meal; take it slowly rather than treating it as a shot. · A long sunset seafood dinner in the Old Town or by the harbour—more a Sozopol ritual than a single dish.
